Educating Court Staff on Domestic Violence

Oftentimes, court staff is the first point of contact for both survivors and people who cause harm, illustrating the need for court-based training and education on domestic violence.

Along with its project partners, the Center for Court Innovation has developed a comprehensive multi-day curriculum designed specifically to enhance the court process on cases involving domestic violence.

Sites interested in providing domestic violence training for their court staff can contact the Center’s Gender & Family Justice team at dvinfo@courtinnovation.org

Resources for Court Staff

Many court-based professionals struggle with defining their exact role and responsibilities in cases involving domestic violence due to the unique safety concerns present. Common questions include: What exactly goes on in domestic violence cases? Why do survivors drop orders for protection? How can court staff be fair and neutral on these cases?

The training tools below provide a short introduction to each of these topics. Please check back periodically for new resources.
