Danielle Brutus

Project Director of Neighborhood Safety Initiatives

Danielle Brutus, MSW/MA, is a dynamic leader in community engagement, social justice, and public safety with over eight years of experience in capacity building, nonprofit leadership, and criminal justice reform. She currently serves as Director of Capacity Building at the Center for Justice Innovation, where she designs and leads training programs that strengthen resident leadership, community organizing, and placekeeping initiatives across New York City.

Previously, Danielle was Associate Director at the Center for Court Innovation, where she helped implement the Neighborhood Safety Initiative in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice and John Jay College. In this role, she launched a resource referral network for NYCHA residents during the COVID-19 pandemic and oversaw the creation of community-driven safety action plans across Brooklyn and Staten Island.

Danielle holds dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Criminal Justice, along with a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University at Albany, SUNY. She is a passionate advocate for equity, fluent in Haitian-Creole, and committed to transforming systems through education, dialogue, and resident-led change.
