30 Years of Community Justice: James Brodick and Rasmia Kirmani

Oct 23, 2026

How has community safety evolved over the past thirty years? And what does the future of community justice look like?

In our latest video, James Brodick and Rasmia Kirmani sit down together in our Midtown Community Justice Center community garden to discuss how the community safety landscape has changed, the ecosystem of community justice, and moving at the speed of trust.

For three decades, James and Rasmia have been champions of community justice in New York City, and it’s no coincidence that their careers have spanned the evolution of the Center for Justice Innovation through the same period.

A lifelong New Yorker, James served as Project Director of the Red Hook Community Justice Center and then the Brownsville Community Justice Center, and now leads the seeding of community safety initiatives across the country with Community Justice Solutions.

Rasmia started her career around the corner from the Midtown Community Justice Center at what is now the Times Square Alliance, and found her career in-step with the Center for years until she became Board Chair and now the Chief Program Officer of Community Safety.
