The Future Depends on Community-Led Justice

May 27, 2021

Violence against people of color at the hands of police has sparked a movement for change. Governments and communities large and small need critical reforms to make transformational change possible. On May 20, we brought together a dynamic group of speakers who are actively engaged in building community-led justice.

Hear from New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and community leaders, Erica Ford, Erica Mateo, Alex M. Johnson, and Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, who are invested in community-driven models for safety and justice. Each speaker shared their unique approaches, challenges, and perspectives on what community-driven safety looks like, what investments are needed, and how to build lasting change.

Communities know what they need. They know what they need to be safe, be free from harm, and do what they need to thrive. I think of community-led justice as about liberation and self-determination, about dignity and respect.
