Trauma affects nearly everyone who enters the criminal justice system, including litigants, victims, witnesses, jurors, and court practitioners. But how can we address such a far-reaching issue? Implementing trauma-informed practices throughout the criminal court system can help break harmful cycles and lead to better outcomes for defendants. In a first-of-its-kind effort, this blueprint provides practical guidance and tools for criminal court practitioners to implement trauma-informed practices. Recognizing the interdisciplinary nature of the criminal court system, practitioners are encouraged to convene and collaborate with colleagues to implement the recommendations.
